Nowadays, component surfaces are much more than just decorative accessories. They protect the components, they communicate, react to touch and take on functions that have become indispensable in today’s world. And some of them are also really tough. Whether chemical influences, scratches or sunlight – surfaces can now withstand a lot without losing their shine and beauty. Our options are as varied as the surfaces and their properties.

Film back injection molding

Small series with individual printing on 3D components, illuminated symbols, disappearing effects or printed electronics? Thermoforming and film back injection molding make many things possible. Would you like to add functions or suitable designs to your components? We will be happy to support you and work with you to give the films the right shape and color.

PVD

Would you like to give your components a new shine without using electroplated surfaces? PVD technology offers numerous options for making components shine. Wafer-thin layers with a great appearance, combined with the right protective coating, can not only impress visually, but also in terms of resistance. We will be happy to tell you what is possible in a direct conversation.

Printing & labeling

Individualization or mass production, with structure or simply as an image - a lot is possible when it comes to printing and lettering. You can find out from us whether digital printing, pad printing or screen printing processes are right for you. A simple lettering to give your products a name? With laser lettering or hot stamping, there are additional options for expressing your name.

Varnishing

A tried and tested classic that is constantly evolving - painting. In our application center for surface technology, we offer the opportunity to answer questions about painting. From coating structures and primers to new systems and hybrid processes, we can do a lot.

Pre-treatment

In order to create a good basis for coatings and decorations, pre-treatment is an important part of the process. Whether plasma pre-treatment, flame treatment or corona - we offer you the options to find the best possible process for your coatings and bring the substrate to the fore.

The AOT has equipment for a wide range of surface and decor processes. This allows companies to test and optimize new and existing techniques and have corresponding samples produced quickly and flexibly close to series production. Thanks to our extensive equipment in the field of surface testing technology, the samples can then be tested directly for adhesion, scratch and abrasion resistance, media resistance, color, gloss and much more.

Inmould coating -
IMC coating in the injection molding process

Coating in the injection molding process offers new possibilities for protection and design. IMC does not primarily stand for in-mold coating, but rather for a highly efficient, disruptive and future-oriented technology. Instead of going through complex process chains, the components remain in the injection mold and are coated with polyurethane or polyurea in a one-shot process. With clever tool technology and the right materials, it is possible to reproduce structures, create brilliant high-gloss surfaces with a depth effect or seamless transitions from matt to high-gloss, which also have self-healing properties.

In addition to standardised procedures such as colour, gloss and roughness measurement, our range of surface testing services includes further options for surface characterisation, enabling us to draw conclusions about individual characteristic values or causes of surface failure.

 

The following surface tests can be carried out at our premises:
• Microscopic and macroscopic surface imaging
• Colour measurement using a spectrophotometer
• Gloss measurement using a reflectometer
• Roughness and topography measurement
• Contact angle measurement – determination of surface energy and tension
• Scratch and abrasion tests
• Cleanability testing
