Design with impact – cycles instead of short-lived products

A functioning circular economy does not begin at the end of a product’s life cycle – it starts right at the beginning: with the design. This is because the decisive factors for resource efficiency, recyclability, and environmental compatibility are already established in the early stages of product development.

 

The Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid supports companies in designing sustainable plastic products that meet both ecological and economic requirements. Our focus is on linking eco-design principles with the R strategies of the circular economy – from rethink to reuse to recycle. We systematically integrate sustainability into your product development.

In doing so, we consider eco-design as a strategic development principle based on the key areas of material selection and substitution (including recycled materials), modularity and reparability, durability and reusability, and design for recycling.

Our aim is to design products in such a way that they can be returned to the material cycle after their useful life – without any loss of quality or high energy consumption. Together with you, we analyze which of the 10 R strategies are sensible and economically feasible for your products and processes:
